Academics

SGA aims at improving high school attendance and graduation rates, test scores, and opportunities for college admission for economically disadvantaged female students who would not otherwise have access to such an education. They are part of a nationally recognized network of inner-city schools called the NativityMiguel (NM) network, which has been tremendously successful in the struggle to keep at-risk students in school.  All 64 network-schools share the following characteristics:

School Day

Students arrive at 7:30AM and are dismissed at 5:15PM. SGA provides two nutritious meals daily, extended class periods in the core subject areas of Math and Language Arts, and a purposeful extended day program.

Teaching Staff

A dynamic team of passionate teachers and resident volunteers instruct the students of SGA. As part of the NM network, which provides training for all faculty and staff, our teachers are challaneged to foster the development of the whole student, by going beyond the core subject areas and working to build a community within the school.

Extended Year -- Summer Program

During the summer months, many kids put their books away and spend their time outside. However, our students participate in a four-week summer program that is a blend of academic course work and a variety of enrichment activities and field trips.

We recognize the challenges that face our students as they transition into high school and, eventually, college. For this reason, SGA will maintain an ongoing commitment to students after graduation.
