Serviam: I Will Serve
The Ursuline hertiage is inspired by St. Angela Merici's vision of the education of women and girls and the traditions of the Order that she established 475 years ago. St. Angela lived a life of prayer and love of neighbor, dedicating herself to both, especially to the education of young women. Following her lead, Ursuline sisters throughout the world continue to empower others through education and service in a variety of ministries.
From this rich history, the essential characteristics of an Ursuline education have emerged:
- Respect for each person gifted by God
- Emphasis on the development of women and girls, and their unique contributions to society
- Recognition of the importance of the family, and the dignity and worth of each of its members
- Development of a global perspective to reach beyond one's immediate culture and environment
- Prime value given to Serviam (I will serve), and leadership in the process of education
- A life grounded in deep Faith
This mission is further enhanced by promoting a community of learning in an all-girls school environment, in which girls assume positions of leadership, whether in arts, sports, or academic teams, and are more likely to continue in leadership roles later in life. It is with both mindfulness of our Ursuline heritage and the aim to encourage our students to embrace their role as members of a global society that Serviam takes a central role in our school culture.
